Went to pick up one of my all time favorite Chicago spots for lunch and it did not disappoint!! I usually wait in the hour long line but this time I ordered ahead and picked it up. This is the first Filipino Michelin rated restaurant in the world with a tasting menu(hopefully trying it out soon!!) but they have a very affordable daytime menu where I have been too many times to count. I thought getting takeout would dock a few points but it’s just as good as ever:)
They had some new drinks for the summer so had to try them! I got 2 cold drinks (pics below). The lychee passionfruit spritz was super light and refreshing with some crunch from the passionfruit seeds, while the red bean sesame cold brew was milky, a little bit heavier with some chew from the red bean.
For food, I got my usual chicken thigh adobo, which came with rice and pickled veggies. The chicken is deliciously seasoned and juicy and I recommend making a bite from rice, pickled veggie and chicken for a perfect mouthful of flavor.
I also got the hash brown egg and cheese sandwich, another go to of mine. If you’re not super hungry but wanting to try this place, this is the perfect choice. I ordered the food and it was an hour wait, but my hash brown was still crispy, egg was still fluffy and the cheese did not harden. Would drizzle some ketchup if you’re into that 😉
Lastly, I had to get some pastries from there. Their weekday selection isn’t as big as it is on the weekend, but still solid options. The Ube huckleberry basque cake was perfectly delicate and crumbly and not too sweet. The apple hand pie was so satisfying to break open with a fork(you had to be there to hear the crisp) and had candied sugar on top that paired really well with the tartness of the apple.
Will do a tasting menu and when I dine in review soon. Cheers!!
